In Memory – Paul “Hermano Pablo” Finkenbinder
Paul Finkenbinder, known throughout Latin America as “Hermano Pablo,” passed away last week in Irvine at age 90.
Hermano Pablo was a friend of our Vanguard community and his four children are alumni. Vanguard (Southern California College at the time) awarded Hermano Pablo an honorary doctorate in 1993 to recognize his service as a missionary and evangelist. Our colleague Mel Covetta notes: “Born in Puerto Rico, Paul and his wife Linda went to El Salvador in 1942 as missionaries. In 1955 his first radio program and later Bible dramas for television began. Paul is best known for ‘A Message to the Conscience.’ His program is currently broadcast over 6400 times each day in 33 countries. The Hermano Pablo office is located in Costa Mesa. The Finkenbinders moved to Costa Mesa to enable their children to attend SCC/Vanguard. The Finkenbinders celebrated their 70th anniversary with family and friends on January 25th.”
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at Templo Calvario Assembly of God, 2501 W. 5th Street, Santa Ana. The English service will be at 10 a.m. and the Spanish service will be at 2 p.m.
